EFFECTIVE PROGRAMMING FOR PENSA
Elder Kwadwo Boakye Boadu (2013/2014 PENSA GHANA COORDINATOR)
SCRIPTURE READING
Daniel 1:3-4
} The king told Ashpenaz, head of the palace staff, to get some
Israelites from the royal family and nobility -young men who were healthy and
handsome, intelligent and well-educated, good prospects for leadership
positions in the government, perfect specimens!-and indoctrinate
them in the Babylonian language and the lore of magic and fortunetelling.(MSG)
Introduction
} LEADERSHIP IS KEY TO THE SUCCESS OF EVERY GROUP
“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the
way” (John C. Maxwell)
} Leadership is about taking RESPONSIBLITY; it’s defined by RESULTS
} Your RESPONSIBILITY is to INSPIRE and LEAD others to LEARN MORE,
DO MORE and BECOME MORE LIKE CHRIST
} In carrying out your RESPONSIBILITY, you would be expected to put
together a list of ACTIVITIES/PROGRAMS on- and possibly outside-campus
Ensuring Effective programming
} WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES OF THE LEADERSHIP FOR THE YEAR??
} WHAT ACTIVITIES WOULD HELP REALIZE THESE OBJECTIVES??
} WHO/WHICH PEOPLE CAN BEST HELP LEADERSHIP TO EXECUTE THESE
ACTIVITIES
} HOW MUCH TIME DOES LEADERSHIP HAVE TO EXECUTE THESE ACTIVITIES?
Objectives/Focus of the Leadership
} Nationwide, close to about 75% of PENSA institutions do not have
specific objectives to work towards in any particular year; especially the SHS
} The few institutions who have themes and focus are only being
‘traditional’ with no coherence between ‘themes’ and ‘programs’
} It is always about “what programs can we organize?” or “can we
repeat Ghamsu’s program because it was a hit?”
} The objectives you choose must be measurable
} You must have indicators/criteria for measuring the set objectives
at the end of your term before you hand over
Activities for Achieving Set Objectives
} Put down a list of activities that are in line with achieving the
set objectives
} Each activity must be ‘specific’ to contributing to the objectives
} Each activity must be executable considering the time and other
resources available
} It is not mandatory that you follow the same list of activities
your predecessors carried out
} Do not load the year with too many activities
Speakers/Facilitators
} Selecting speakers/facilitators should be with caution
} As C.O.P, we do not side step our doctrines; the speaker must
subscribe to them
} Do not Concentrate on FAME and POPULARITY
} Consider the Spiritual Gifts/area of operation
} Consider the location of the speaker
} Get alternative speakers/facilitators for every activity
Time Available
} The list of activities should be limited to the time available for
meetings
} Do not spend too much time outside the main activity for the
meeting
} Each activity should be defined in the context of the objective
and time
} Time, again, should be a major factor in inviting speakers
Conclusion
To ensure effective programs in PENSA, LEADERSHIP NEEDS TO
CONSIDER:
-
The
objectives/focus for the year
-
Activities that
would directly contribute to realizing the objectives
-
Speakers who can
help execute the activities outlined
-
Time available to
LEADERSHIP
